Soprano Laurie Ashworth

Giggleswick Choral Society and Giggleswick School Choir join forces with Settle Orchestra and four outstanding soloists, Laurie Ashworth (soprano), Kate Grosset (alto), Ben Tharpa (tenor) and local bass, David Rees-Jones for a performance of Verdi’s much loved sacred masterpiece. This concert will be the spring highlight of Giggleswick School’s Quincentenary celebrations.

Aside from his operas, Verdi is best known for this extraordinary Requiem, written in memory of the Italian writer and nationalist Alessandro Manzoni. The dramatic power of the famous Dies Irae and the sublime lyricism of the work’s solo passages have led many to describe it as more of an opera than a formal Requiem Mass.
